Ground Source Heat Pumps
A ground source heat pump extracts heat energy emitted by the sun and stored in the ground or water mass i.e. a lake.
The energy is absorbed by circulating a water/glycol mix through installed ground collectors, either by a horizontal collector, or a vertical borehole. The heat pump upgrades this energy to a usable temperature, and the heat produced is used to provide your heating and hot water.
The system comprises of a heat collector compressor and a condenser, which work together to upgrade this low energy source to a usable temperature for domestic use typically 55C.
The heat pump is powered by electricity but there are no other fuel costs, the sun’s energy is free. The efficiency of the heat pump can easily exceed a ratio of 4:1 1kwh of electrical power= 4kwh of heat energy.
Ground Source Heat Pumps provide an excellent source of heat and hot water and give a high performance throughout the year.
Benefits of using a Ground Source Heat Pump:
- A big reduction in annual energy bills
- No more fuel deliveries
- No theft or pollution worries
- Quiet operation
- Big carbon footprint reduction
- Suitable for both domestic and commercial use
- Can be incorporated into existing central heating emitter systems
- No visible signs outdoors so aesthetically pleasing
- More consistent efficiency
